Poppens Family Farm is a 4th generation farm located in Parkersburg, Iowa growing corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and a whole lot more.
Robert Poppens and his father bought the farm back in 1964 and started farming it soon after. The farm was incorporated January 1, 1979.
1960
It Begins
Poppens Family Farm begins as Robert & Bernadine Poppens marry and move to a farm near Ackley, IA. They live there for five years.
1966
The Move
After moving to the current farm, the family sells their previous property. They began raising sows and construct a farrowing house for a hog confinement. Additionally, they begin keeping two cows, Gentile and Highstep, for milking purposes. They sell milk, pasteurizing it themselves and selling it to the local community. They also began raising 20-30 beef cattle.
1979
Incorporated
Poppens Family Farms was incorporated on January 1, 1979.
1964
Land Purchase
Purchased their first farm for $200 per acre. The family consisted of three kids at the time, with Tony starting kindergarten upon moving into their current home.
Late 1960's-1970's
Livestock Sold
The Poppens Family decides to cease animal farming operations and sells off their livestock. They continue to raise 50 chickens annually for meat production.
Present
Family Farms
Currently the farm is run by 6 of the Poppens family members and in-laws; harvesting over 4,000 acres each year. The farm has also expanded to include a greenhouse, boulder company, chicken & hog confinements, and trucking services.
